From an early age, Franklin's life was marked by a foundation of faith and a spirit of adventure. Baptized in December 1944 at the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, his upbringing in Keta laid the groundwork for a remarkable journey.

Franklin's academic journey began at Keta Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Primary School and continued at Keta Secondary School. A significant turn in his life came when he moved to Accra to live with his brother and enrolled in O'Reilly Secondary School to further his secondary education. After completing his O'Level examinations, Franklin's passion for the sea led him to enroll as a cadet at the Nautical College in Ghana, where he pursued his maritime career for two years.

His professional life was a testament to his dedication and adventurous spirit. Franklin joined the Black Star Line, Ghana's national shipping line, for further training and quickly rose to the rank of 2nd officer. His career took him across the globe, navigating North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. Notably, during the Iraq-Iran war, Franklin played a crucial role in transporting oil from Iran to Europe, earning admiration for his calm and precise navigation through perilous conditions.
